Location: Xingalool, a town in the Bari region of Puntland, Somalia.

Purpose: To address the critical need for clean, safe drinking water in an area characterized by saline groundwater and vulnerability to drought and climate change.

Technology: The Xingalool facility utilizes a patented water desalination and purification system powered entirely by photovoltaic solar energy, operating without the need for batteries. This makes the system environmentally sustainable and cost-effective to run long-term.

Implementation: The plant was built by Genius to serve the community, with a focus on creating a sustainable, long-term solution.

Impact: The project has dramatically improved the quality of life and health for residents by providing a reliable source of fresh water, reducing the burden of sourcing water from distant or unsafe locations. 

The company is involved in managing the plant with local partners through a public-private partnership (PPP) model.
