1. Genius Investor, in collaboration with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the government of Japan, successfully established a solar-powered water desalination plant in Waaciye, a town in the Puntland region of Somalia. 

Project Overview

• Objective: To provide a reliable source of clean and safe drinking water to the residents of Waaciye, addressing severe water shortages caused by saline groundwater and climate change vulnerability.
• Capacity: The plant is capable of producing up to 100,000 liters of potable water per day.
• Technology: It uses an innovative, patented reverse osmosis system powered entirely by a solar photovoltaic (PV) power supply, eliminating the need for batteries and ensuring sustainable, zero-emission operation.
• Impact: The project currently supplies clean water to over 8,300 residents and has a "profound ripple effect" on the community, improving health outcomes and quality of life. 

Sustainability and Local Involvement

A key aspect of the Waaciye project is its focus on long-term sustainability through local empowerment. 

• Training: UNIDO and Genius Investor trained local Somali individuals to operate and maintain the desalination facility, creating employment opportunities and ensuring the community has the skills to sustain the project long into the future.
• Management: Genius Investor is involved in a public-private partnership (PPP) model for its Somali projects, handling long-term operation and maintenance to guarantee performance and affordable water prices.
